The original Denver Municipal Auditorium opened with a capacity of 12,500,
the largest auditorium in the U.S. after Madison Square Garden. Renovations
were made to the building in the 1940’s, and in 1953 the Auditorium Arena
was built into the southern half of the Municipal Auditorium.

Notes:
The Denver Rockets of the American Basketball Association (ABA) played in the Auditorium Arena from 1967 to 1974 (and in 1974 & 1975 as the ABA’s Denver Nuggets).
Venue (Building) Today:
On February 21, 1990 a wrecking ball started demolishing the Auditorium Arena.
It was then remodeled into the Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre and reopened on
November 1, 1991. The theater is now part of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts
Complex and has a seating capacity of 2,830.
